To our valued Limited Partners,
I am writing to address recent questions regarding our investment in DataLlama AI, which, as some of you have noticed, no longer exists.
Let me provide context. On a Monday, we marked DataLlama up 40x based on a "term sheet" from a "strategic investor" that we now understand was a group chat. We reflected this markup in our quarterly statements, threw a party, and ordered new fleece vests embroidered with "40X CLUB."
On the following Tuesday, DataLlama went to zero. The founder, the product, the office, and the company dog all vanished simultaneously. We are told this is "not technically a rug pull" but the lawyers are still discussing.
I want to be transparent about what went wrong. In hindsight, the warning signs were present:
We have taken decisive corrective action. Specifically, we have revised the markup from 40x to 0x, and we have removed the embroidery from the vests with a seam ripper.
I take full responsibility, which is a phrase that means nothing and costs me nothing, which is why I am saying it.
We remain confident in our process, despite all available evidence.
Resolutely,
Chadwick "Chad" Burnsworth III
